Elizabeth is finally coming home To Johnstown, the birthplace where she lived until she was 26 years old. It has taken a dozen years to make this happen.
The statue will be placed in the Sir William Johnson Memorial Park which lies between the Fulton County Courthouse where she spent a lot of time and the site of her home which is the present site of the Berkshire Bank. The celebration will take place on August 26th, Women’s Equality Day, starting at 4PM. There will be Music and Speeches and Food Trucks and a talk by Sue Macy, author of Wheels of Change, on the importance of bicycling to the suffrage movement. Coline Jenkins, Elizabeth’s great great granddaughter will be here as well as Melinda Grube who always does a great impersonation of Elizabeth . Hope to see everyone there. Bring lawn chairs and face masks for the unvaccinated.
The Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts officially unveiled its
2020 Women’s Movement: Art By, About and For Women Show
This special show celebrates the hundredth anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote. Works in a wide variety of media, mostly themed around women and female identity, are on display in this show. In addition to local artists, this exhibition features creators from across New York State as well as Texas, North Carolina and Virginia. Through the generous support of donors, the Nigra Arts Center is able to offer awards to outstanding submissions. In addition, the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women’s Consortium sponsored a special Elizabeth Cady Stanton Award for this show. The award, selected by members of the Consortium, will be presented to the piece of artwork that most closely aligns with Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s ambitions for the progress of women.
